This fern is the largest European species, demanding plenty of space to reach its full potential. It likes shady spots in moist soil, great near a pond on bog garden.  If planted in a sunny location it can cope as long as it remains damp during the summer.

This is a deciduous hardy fern which likes to grow near ponds or damp areas, do not allow the soil to dry out.  The fronds appear as a red-purple colour which mature into bright green in summer turning golden orange in autumn before they die back in winter.  Can grow up to 1.5 m and spread to 1m.
