Chamaerops humilis Vulcano

A stunning form of the much loved Chamaerops humilis, with tight compact leaves borne in great numbers. Producing suckers with age. Slow growing, awesome and very rare in cultivation.

The Dwarf Mediterranean Fan Palm is a selected form of Chamaerops humilis that originated in a nursery on Sicily (not actually on the island of Vulcano, as is often stated!) that is dwarf in many of its features: slower growing, shorter in stature, with smaller stiffer leaves. As with its bigger cousin, Chamaerops humilis ‘Vulcano’ is variable in the actual size and form of the leaves and, especially, the degree of silver on the leaf underside. Mature plants of this cultivar are especially beautiful, possessing a compact symmetry that is lost when the form is expanded. A choice garden palm!
